Ink drawing of a bouquet with map nodes

Who are you?

In my day job, I’m a Chicago-based artist and educator. I make drawings, artist books, and digital installations. My practice takes a media archaeological approach, using found materials like cracked CDs and old textbooks as material evidence of the structures and power relations that lace through society. I turn the vernacular aesthetics of doing something efficiently or "by the book" and push them to their illogical extremes, til they collapse under their own weight.

More immediately relevant to this enterprise, I’ve been playing pen and paper RPGs for decades, starting with a beaten up copy of D&D 3e borrowed from my cousin on a family trip. Nowadays, I split my time between GLoG and WFRP 4e, though I bring a certain story game flair to both endeavors.

What is this?

This blog is a vehicle for me to concretize and share my notes and musings - all the stuff that would otherwise linger unseen and underdeveloped in a word doc.

Expect some mix of GLoG content, essays on gamemastering, media archaeological surveys of RPG publications, and discursive posts connecting the hobby as I experience it to the spheres of contemporary art and media criticism.

Why so bare bones?

I'm trying this out. If I like it, I'll put some money in and do it up a little nicer.

How can I contact you?

You can call me Vivanter. That's also my gmail address and discord handle. Lately I've been haunting Shattered Coast GLoG.
