Mask 34: Alberti's Mask

For the mask relay.

Alberti's Mask is assembled from fitted pieces of waxed poplar and fine black thread. An upper lip with a walrus mustache and a boxy nose connects too oversized eyeholes. These apertures are webbed with a taught, rectilinear grid of string. This mesh extends beyond the two eyeholes and is tied behind the wearer's head to secure the mask in place.

The wearer looks out into a world rendered discrete, every object in its describable place. Even emptiness is recast as unallocated space, a container rather than a void.

The mask was originally enchanted as a draftsman's tool. Working with a gridded sheet of paper, the wearer can transfer the world, box by box, with astonishing accuracy. While wearing the mask, drawings you make are extremely accurate. While wearing the mask, gain advantage on any roll to notice secret doors, irregular architecture, and illusions if you can make a sketch as you search.

Perspective implies a perceiver. Everything the wearer sees is implicitly changed by their gaze. Nature spirits like dryads and treants hate this. They take being seen this way as an assault on their very identity and will respond in kind. Once per session while wearing the mask, you may ask the GM "how is what I am looking at about me?" The GM must answer. They may not say it isn't.
