Perks and Drawbacks for Mausritter
Joseph Jacobs. Illustration from The Fables of Aesop. 1922.
As I mentioned in the debrief for our recent Mausritter micro-campaign, my players found their mice a little same-y and their advancement options a little lackluster. Inspired by a post by Idraluna Archives, here are some minimally invasive rules to differentiate your mice a little bit.
Perks and Drawbacks
When making a mouse, you may roll for a perk. If you do, roll for a drawback as well.
Whenever your mouse would gain a point of Grit, you may instead roll for another perk. Re-roll any repeated perks.
d6 | Perk | Downside |
---|---|---|
1 | +1 to melee attacks | -1 to melee attacks |
2 | +1 to ranged attacks | -1 to ranged attacks |
3 | +1 HP per HD | -1 HP per HD (min. 1) |
4 | Advantage re: Birthsign* | Disadvantage re: Birthsign* |
5 | Advantage on Initiative | Disadvantage on Initiative |
6 | -1 MD exhaust range (5-6) | +1 MD exhaust range (3-6) |
* E.g. a mouse born under the Star would have advantage on tests to be brave or disadvantage on tests that involve being reckless. See pg. 6 for details.
